Vaxy started in 2017 with a simple idea, born during a conversation on an Amsterdam rooftop terrace. Co-founders Dr. Marco Goeijenbier and Pim Bruijnes were still students then.
Marco and Pim got talking about travel, health and how difficult it can be to keep a clear overview. While preparing for a trip to the Philippines, the Yellow Booklet was nowhere to be found and it was unclear which vaccinations were still needed.
At the same time, Marco was working on his doctoral research into infectious diseases, carefully tracking infection risks and vaccination requirements per country. The realisation quickly emerged that this valuable information could be made far more accessible and organised.
That insight led to a simple thought: this information should be digital, clear and always available. And so the app Vaccinatieboekje, now known as Vaxy, was born.
During the 2019 pandemic, more and more users discovered the convenience of a digital vaccination overview. Since then, Vaxy has grown as a platform for records and reminders, including the jabs that come with getting older. Marco still oversees the medical content, from everyday practice as an intensivist.
