Altitude sickness
In this country, you can develop altitude sickness. It can happen when you stay at elevations above 2,500 metres.
Measles
There is a higher risk that you will get measles in this country. Were you born after 1965, and have you never had measles? And have you never had a vaccination against measles? Get a vaccination against measles. Also vaccinate your children if they are older than 6 months and if they have not yet been vaccinated against Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR, or in Dutch: ‘BMR’) as part of the National Immunisation Programme .
Rabies
Mammals in this country may have rabies. Avoid any contact with mammals. Before you travel to this country, ask an expert (doctor/nurse) at a travel vaccination centre if you need a vaccination against rabies.
Schistosomiasis
You can get schistosomiasis in this country if you have contact with surface water. Do not go near fresh surface water.
Depends on your trip
Typhoid
Will you be staying in this country for more than 3 months? Then get vaccinated against typhoid fever. Vaccination against typhoid fever is sometimes also recommended if you are staying in this country for more than two weeks. This depends on the circumstances and your medical situation. Tuberculosis
There is a higher risk that you will get tuberculosis in this country. Get advice from an expert (doctor/nurse) at a travel vaccination centre.
